Biography

Thomas P. Mauriello is an educator, author, forensic consultant, and public speaker.  He retired from federal service in 2012 after 30 years of service with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).  Among his numerous assignments as a Special Agent, he served as an investigator, senior polygraph examiner, and Chief of Polygraph.  Before his federal service, he was a police officer and criminal investigator for the State of Maryland. Throughout his professional career, he served as a senior lecturer in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice (CCJS) at the University of Maryland. For 48 years, he taught criminal justice and investigation courses, as well as forensic sciences courses, while creating and managing the CCJS Crime Laboratory. He is the founder and CEO of ForensIQ, Inc.  His company provides forensic investigation services; criminal case and evidence assessments; security and counterintelligence services; education, training, awareness, and motivational public speaking presentations and training; and on-camera news media and film and TV production consultation. He is an accomplished author, who, besides writing this book, is the author of the legal treatise Criminal Investigation Handbook: Strategy, Law and Science; The Dollhouse Murders, illustrating crime scene dioramas used to study the crime scene investigation (CSI) process, e-textbook Introduction to Criminalistics: From Crime Scene to Courtroom, and Public Speaking for Criminal Justice Professionals. A sought-after forensic sciences consultant, as an expert witness and regularly interviewed by newspapers, television, and radio news media.  He has been featured as an on-camera forensic consultant in several television documentaries and, most recently, in the film “A Lost Boy.”  He is the creator and host of the Forensicweek.com Show, a podcast broadcast archived on his YouTube channel at ForensicWeek.com. Born and raised in Malden, Massachusetts, he resides with his wife, Laurie, in Laurel, Maryland.  He holds a Master of Forensic Sciences degree from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology from Suffolk University, Boston, Massachusetts. He is an American Academy of Forensic Sciences Fellow, an active member of the International Association for Identification and the Maryland Polygraph Association.
