Biography
Elana Passman is Professor of History at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana.
Excellent—thoughtful, engaging, and timely…Passman draws on extensive archival research in both France and Germany to offer a novel history of the Franco-German alliance... Eschewing the traditional focus on treaties, diplomats, and heads-of-state as the key actors shaping Franco-German relations, Passman introduces readers to a rich cast of intellectuals, artists, scholars, journalists, and industrialists, who from the 1920s through the 1960s formed a variety of associations and institutions that comprised a kind of Franco-German civil society committed to “cultivating friendship” across the Rhine.
