The Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) Problem Book 1985–2021
The book will appeal to both instructors and students of mathematics with interest in solving real world problems. This book is a compendium of the problems used in the annual Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) run by the Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications (COMAP). In this competition teams of undergraduate mathematics students develop and present solutions to problems from the real world. The contest is international in scope and draws over 12,000 student teams each year.
The author offers a set of contest judges’ recommendations for student teams to enhance their papers.
Biography
William C. Bauldry, Prof. Emeritus and Adjunct Research Prof. at Appalachian State University, earned his PhD in Approximation Theory from Ohio State. He has published many papers on pedagogy and technology, often using Maple, and has been the PI of several NSF-funded projects incorporating technology and modeling into math courses. He currently serves as Associate Director of COMAP’s Math Contest in Modeling (MCM). He is the co-author (with William P. Fox) of Advanced Problem Solving with Maple: A First Course and Advanced Problem Solving Using Maple, both by CRC Press.
