To maintain a healthy and prosperous agricultural industry, the United Kingdom Government makes grants and subsidies to farmers which cost the taxpayer £250 million or so a year. Why and how they do this is the story which this book tells.
Expert advice plays an important part in raising the productivity of farms, and the book describes the kinds of technical advice the Ministry provides to farmers through the National Agricultural Advisory Service and the Agricultural Land Service.
