Biography

John Baker was, at the time of original publication, a Lecturer in Sociology in the Department of Social Administration at the University of Hull. After studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics at University College, Oxford, and Sociology at the London School of Economics, he worked for the Institute of Community Studies, London. He had taught in further, higher and adult education, specializing in social security.
