About the Author

Aurel Braun is Professor of International Relations at the University of Toronto. He received his Ph.D. from the London School of Economics. His works include <i>The Warsaw Pact: Change and Modernization</i> (forthcoming, Westview), <i>Small-State Security in the Balkans</i> (1983); <i>Romanian Foreign Policy Since 1965: The Political Military Limits of Autonomy</i> (1978); <i>The Middle East in Global Strategy</i> (editor) (Westview, 1987); and <i>Ceausescu: The Problems of Power</i> (1980). He is the author of numerous articles and chapters on Soviet-East European relations, the Warsaw Pact, the CMEA, and strategic issues. His articles have appeared in Obis, <i>Problems of Communism, The International Journal, Millennium, and Sudosteuropa</i>.
