Biography
Ting Zhang is a theatre and performance studies scholar with a Ph.D. from the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on dramaturgy in contemporary Chinese theatre. She is also a playwright, translator, and dramaturg, collaborating with both Chinese and Australian theatre companies.
Ting Zhang’s comprehensive account of dramaturgy in Chinese theatre is an important and invaluable addition to the library of any dramaturg or theatre scholar wanting to understand the practice of dramaturgy globally.
It is an elegant and sensitive history that draws on interviews with current practitioners and organisations, and which illuminates what is distinctive about aspects of contemporary Chinese dramaturgy while also situating the practice broadly in the Western traditions of dramaturgy.
