Biography

Dr. Richard W. Levak has co-authored seven books on the MMPI/MMPI-2 and is a Fellow of the San Diego Psychological Association, the Society for Personality Assessment, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Assessment Psychology.

Dr. Alan F. Friedman is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in full-time independent practice in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago. He is also a Fellow in the Society for Personality Assessment.

Dr. Yossef S. Ben-Porath is an Emeritus Professor of Psychological Sciences at Kent State University, USA. He has been involved extensively in MMPI research for the past 40 years and is a co-developer of the MMPI-3.

“As a co-author of Therapeutic Feedback with the MMPI-2, I have witnessed firsthand how deeply validating feedback can be and the way it reduces defensiveness and encourages openness in clients. This has been especially important in my assessment work on Survivor and other reality television programs where people want to look their best. Given this, I have long been curious about the MMPI-3, particularly its suitability for younger individuals who struggle with a lengthy test battery. This book clearly demonstrates the ways that person-centered and compassionate feedback can be used with the MMPI-3. It gives the clinician a deeper understanding of the scales and the implications for family background and potential pitfalls in the course of work with the client. This will undoubtedly be a must-have manual for psychologists who aim to integrate therapeutic feedback into their MMPI-3 assessment practice."

Liza Siegel, Ph.D., Consulting Psychologist

“Over 20+ years of teaching assessment courses to doctoral students, I’ve found that the process of giving feedback is grossly overlooked in the available resources. The majority of the literature focuses on how to write a report, rather than how to communicate the results to clients in a productive manner. With this new text Levak, Friedman, and Ben-Porath have filled that void, at least with regard to the MMPI-3. This text provides abundant feedback examples that can not only help clients understand their results but may also assist them in gaining self-insight and engaging in the treatment process. This new book will be assigned reading in my next MMPI-3 class.”

P. Kevin Bolinskey, Ph.D., HSPP, Professor, Department of Psychology, Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN, USA

“Leading experts guide readers in interpreting the MMPI-3 with clarity and precision. They show how to translate complex test correlations into meaningful statements that psychotherapy clients can truly use to understand themselves and make productive changes in their lives. Because unaccepted truths yield nothing, this book focuses on insights that are both accurate and usable – helping therapists frame results in ways that might yield real transformation in their clients. Without a doubt: a powerful new resource to clinicians doing clinical personality assessment.”
