Biography

Meron Zeleke (PhD) is an Associate Professor at the Center for Human Rights, Addis Ababa University. She has years of teaching and research experience at renowned academic institutions in Africa, North America, Europe and Asia, and is a member of several international academic associations. She has rich research experience on numerous international and national academic research projects. Her core research expertise includes areas of migration, gendered labour markets, violence against women, religion, and customary conflict resolution. Meron has extensively published in internationally renowned peer-reviewed journals on a wide range of topics such as religion, local institutions of dispute settlement, gender and migration. She has authored two books, edited books and journals, contributed chapters to several edited volumes and entries in encyclopaedias including the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of African history. She is an international editorial board member of Islamic Africa (Brill) and the Editor in Chief of the Ethiopian Journal of Human Rights.

Christophe Van der Beken (PhD, Ghent University, Belgium) is a Professor of Public Law at Addis Ababa University, Center for Human Rights. His areas of expertise and research interests include public law, comparative constitutional law, federalism, human rights and minority rights, local government, and good governance. He has extensive teaching experience, educating and advising students on topics related to his areas of expertise. In this regard, he has also acted as promoter and examiner of various PhD theses in Ethiopia and abroad. Christophe has extensive field research experience in Ethiopia and has offered and coordinated numerous trainings on different aspects of human rights and the rule of law. He has authored and edited various books and articles, several of which have been published in international peer-reviewed journals.
