Tony Wood
I have held teaching appointments in primary, secondary and tertiary education and in the Royal Navy. I was the founding Vice Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire. Past research includes the effects of involving parents in the school curriculum, mathematically gifted children, and pattern perception development in the young. I am currently investigating the effects on primary school performance of incorporating structured speaking and listening activities into the curriculum.

Biography
A wide career in education as school teacher, university lecturer, college director, and university vice chancellor. Extensive research in primary schools in a variety of fields has had a common practical purpose of translating research findings into guidance and materials for teachers aimed at improving both the self-confidence and the school performance of their pupils. Appointed Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bedfordshire and elected governor and trustee of The English-Speaking Union, both in 2011.Education

For the last five years working with primary school teachers to develop materials to improve the speaking and listening skills of children, and conducting empirical research which has established the beneficial effects of such activities on school achievement levels. Established the first public speaking competitions for children aged 7-9 years now in their fifth year.
