retired Kenmore-Tonawanda teacher

I am passionate about being able to share the excitement and love of reading with my students and their parents. During my 38 year career as a classroom and reading teacher, I worked to develop programs for families where we could share ideas, methods and materials with one another. Through our book, I can share my ideas and experiences with many others in education and literacy.

I grew up in the Buffalo area, graduated from Brockport State College in NY and began my teaching career in the Gates-Chili School District in Rochester, NY. After completing my EdM as a Reading Specialist, I taught at Akron Central Schools, Charlotte Sidway Primary School in Grand Island, NY, then finished my teaching career at Hoover Elementary School in Kenmore, NY. I have served on many school and district ELA committees, taught staff development courses and workshops, and served as a turn-key trainer in ELA scoring and common core. Personal Interests

I have been a Board member of the Niagara frontier Reading Council for over 20 years, developing the Babies and Books Program for first time parents-to-be with a local hospital, Habitat for Humanity Book Baskets program for home dedications, and collecting Spanish books and school supplies for our International outreach school in Nicaragua.

A First Lieutenant in our local Civil Air Patrol Squadron (CAP), I teach classes on lesson planning, public speaking, life skills, and Character Development. We encourage our cadets to volunteer for local service projects, such as placing flags on Veteran's graves for Memorial Day, grooming the gardens at a local Army Reserve Station, and participating in Color Guards in several parades. My interest in aerospace in CAP led me to develop an Aeronautical Club for 4th and 5th graders in which students learned about aviation physics and math, and built and launched rockets.

Music has always been a passion. I have been coordinator of a contemporary music ministry group for over 40 years. I play  flute and guitar and sing a bit but mostly love the camaraderie of the members.

I have two sons, a self-professed computer geek and a Capt. in the Air Force. I have two adorable granddaughters, with whom I love to read, and a grandson due in a few months!
