Light Prescriptions Innovators

I work in nonimaging optics, mostly applied to illumination using Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and solar energy concentration.

I was born in Monção, Portugal. I received my PhD from the Higher Technical Institute, Technical University of Lisbon and did postgraduate work in Spain during 2002 at the Solar Energy Institute, Technical University of Madrid. In 2003, I moved to California, and joined Light Prescriptions Innovators, LLC (or LPI). In 2006, I moved back to Madrid, Spain, and since then have been working with LPI.

Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

Nonimaging optics has a wide range of uses and may be advantageously applied to many things, such as automobile headlamps, light guides, backlights, flashes, appliances, medical lighting, light bulbs or other applications that need illumination.
It is also an ideal tool for designing solar energy concentrators, either for concentrator photovoltaics (CPV) or thermal applications.

Personal Interests

I have contributed to several Wikipedia webpages related to nonimaging optics and illumination.
I enjoy the outdoors. My favorite recreation is wilderness hiking.
