Biography
I have worked for almost 30 years in the field of social work. It is my passion. It is the most gratifying work I can imagine doing. My early learning/work began as a social worker in northern Saskatchewan as a Social Assistance Worker, Child Protection Worker, and Mental Health Clinician. Since then, I have worked in private practice for 20 years and founded Prairie Institute of Expressive Arts Therapy (PIEAT)in 2007. At PIEAT we offer Level 1 & 2 trainings in Expressive Arts, as well as a range of other trainings. It is a wonderful balance to do both clinical practice AND professional training in expressive arts therapy. My trainings in body centered psychotherapies include Integrative Body Psychotherapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Inner Relationship Focusing. These trainings have been instrumental in developing a way of working with children and trauma that focuses on the sensory experience of trauma, developing body resources through the treatment process, and provides a safe, structured approach to trauma treatment.
My work with the National Institute of Trauma and Loss in Children (TLC) has also been instrumental in my learning as a therapist and as a trainer. I am an Advanced Certified Trauma Practitioner and Certified Agency Trainer with TLC.
The most powerful learning for me, comes from each client who enters into the therapeutic space. It is here where I learn the most. It is to my clients that I am most grateful.
