Evgeny Khvalkov

My current research focuses on late medieval and early modern Italian colonization, particularly Genoese, with an emphasis on the Black Sea area. In this work I investigate the multicultural societies resulting from this colonization in the broader framework of colonial history, tracing the continuity between the Genoese and early modern Hispanic colonialism.
