Dr. John C. Ayers is a Professor at Vanderbilt University in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has published many articles on geochemistry, experimental petrology, and metamorphic petrology.

Biography

I am a Geochemist in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department at Vanderbilt University since 1991.  I have authored 36 peer-reviewed journal articles, one book, and three book chapters, and my work has been cited over 3,400 times.  I have been PI or co-PI on nine federal grants, and served as Associate editor for The American Mineralogist and for the Geochemical Transactions of the American Chemical Society. I am a fellow of the Mineralogical Society of America and the Geological Society of America, have been a registered professional geologist and a GIS consultant, and am a board certified environmental scientist. At Vanderbilt I have taught 16 different courses covering aspects of geochemistry, environmental science, and sustainability, and have served as Director of Graduate Studies and Department Chair. I am a husband, father, Professor, scientist, utilitarian, technophile, positivist, and locavore.
