Peter Schmitt
Dr Peter Schmitt is an Associate Professor at the Department of Human Geography at Stockholm University, where he acts as Director of the Master Programme in Urban and Regional Planning. He has been Senior Research Fellow at Nordregio, the Nordic Centre for Spatial Development from 2006 to 2016, which is a leading Nordic and European research centre for regional development and planning, established by the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Biography
Peter’s research is focused on theoretical, cultural and practice-oriented views of spatial planning in a European perspective, EU cohesion policies and transnational territorial cooperation, discursive construction and institutionalization of ‘new’ regions for policy and planning, comparison of spatial planning systems, strategic spatial planning in metropolitan areas, and innovations in urban and regional governance. He has been principal investigator in a number of larger transnational research projects (e.g. within the ESPON 2013 programme, Horizon 2020, JPI Urban Europe).Education
