Muyiwa Adigun


I am a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, West Africa. I studied law at the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria where I graduated with First Class honours in 2006. I bagged a doctorate degree in law from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 2015. I am engaged in teaching and research. My areas of competence are public international law, private international law, public law, comparative law, human rights and jurisprudence.

Biography

I am Muyiwa Adigun. I graduated with First Class Honours in law from University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, West Africa in 2006. In 2010, I bagged a Master’s Degree in law from the same university with Excellent while I bagged a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in law at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 2015.

I have won several awards, one of which was the First Prize at the Category A of the 1st International Legal Essay Writing Competition organised by the British Council, Law Society of England and Wales and Legal Research Initiative in 2006. In 2011, my LL.M thesis won the nomination of the African Studies Centre, University of Leiden, Netherlands as one of the best nine theses in Africa. On 13 April 2012, I was given the prestigious $25000 Dean’s Graduate Award by the New York University Law School. I however declined the award.

Between 2008 and 2009, I was MacArthur Graduate Research Fellow at the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, West Africa. I have published within and outside Nigeria. my latest work is a book titled The International Criminal Court and Nigeria: Implementing the Complementarity Principle of the Rome Statute published by Routledge/Taylor and Francis in 2018. Between 2008 and 2015, I was a counsel with the law firm of Afe Babalola & Co., a firm of over fifty years tradition and one of the best in Nigeria known for forensic advocacy. I am currently a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, West Africa. My research interests cut across human rights, public international law, private international law (conflict of laws), international criminal law, constitutional law, comparative law, public law and jurisprudence.
