Glenda Cantrell, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at The University of Alabama where she developed a program in film production management and producing. With an emphasis on critical thinking, the program seeks to build future industry leaders. Cantrell’s areas of research expertise include film & TV tax incentives and media marketing & promotion; she has been published internationally. She is past President of the Board of Directors for BEA and a former department chair.

Biography

Glenda Cantrell, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at The University of Alabama where she developed a program in film production management and producing. With an emphasis on critical thinking and problem-solving, the program seeks to build future industry leaders. She has won the two top teaching awards in her college, the “Board of Visitor’s Excellence in Teaching Award” and the “Kappa Tau Alpha Commitment to Teaching Award.”  Cantrell’s areas of research expertise include film & TV tax incentives and media marketing & promotion; she has been published internationally. She received both her B.A. and M.A. from the University of Montevallo, and her Ph.D. from The University of Alabama.

Dr. Cantrell is the past President of the Board of Directors for the Broadcast Education Association (BEA).   BEA is the international professional association for professors, industry professionals, and graduate students who are interested in teaching and research related to electronic media and multimedia enterprises.  She is also the former Chair of the Department of Telecommunication & Film (now Journalism & Creative Media) at The University of Alabama.

Before turning to teaching as a career, Dr. Cantrell was the Director of On-Air Promotion at the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).  Additionally, she was a free-lance writer and producer for more than 30 years, working with clients both in the Birmingham, Alabama market and in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas area.
