Robb Montgomery is a mobile journalism professor and an award-winning documentary filmmaker. He teaches professional mobile video storytelling at universities and newsrooms around the world and his clients include the United Nations, CNN, Reuters, Radio Free Europe, Mediacorp, and The New York Times. He is a former editor at the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune. His online courses (hosted by the Smart Film School) are used by journalism professors worldwide.


Robb Montgomery is a former journalist for the Chicago Tribune and the founder of the Smart Film School.
He has been producing media development projects on Design Thinking, Multimedia and Mobile Video Journalism since 2005.

Montgomery is a distinguished visiting professor at several European journalism schools where he teaches Mobile Reporting and leads Story Lab innovation projects.

His clients include Reuters, CNN, Radio Free Europe, TVN, France24, Al Jazeera, Belgium Public Broadcasting, Channel News Asia, SPH, IREX, Thomson Reuters Foundation, Caritas, and The New York Times.
