My work focuses upon theatre and performance history and culture, specifically during the 19th and 20th centuries. My particular interest lies in the way professional infrastructure influences repertoire in mainstream theatre, with a particular focus on London's West End. I have published on subjects including the actor manager system, the emergence and influence of formal training for actors, and the altering professional status of the actress in the early twentieth century.

Biography

I am a researcher and teacher in the fields of drama and performance, based within the School of English, University of Nottingham. My work has a particular focus upon theatre industry practice, including the transition from actor manager to theatre producer in the early part of the twentieth century. My publication in the Routledge 'Fourth Wall' series, J.M. Barrie's 'Peter Pan', is a direct result of this sustained interest. I have published articles for journals focused on these areas, as well as writing theatre reviews for the TLS. I am a member of the British Association for Victorian Studies, the Theatre and Performance Research Association and the American Society for Theatre Research and the Modern Language Association.
