His primary research focus is the history of health and medicine. He has an abiding interest in the history of emotions and feelings, in critical theory, psychology, philosophy, gender and identity, and political, social and cultural history. He teaches History and other humanities subjects to people from secondary school through to postgraduate level. He particularly enjoys supervising dissertations and teaching students how to write essays.
