Bruce is an associate professor of management at the University of South Australia, Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Asian Business and Adjunct Professor of Shandong University. He is a Life Fellow and recent president of the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM).

Biography

Bruce is Associate Professor of management at the University of South Australia,  Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Asian Business and Adjunct Professor of Shandong University. He is a Life Fellow and recent president of the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM). Bruce’s research focuses on strategic management control systems and performance measurement systems in complex environments. He has been a visiting scholar at Royal Holloway (University of London), Aston University and Edinburgh University. Bruce is a member of the Strategic Management Society.

Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

    As Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Asian Business (ACAB), Bruce researches management control systems in China, Indonesia and Japan. He has presented his research in Australia, China and Europe and published in journals including British Accounting Review, Critical Perspectives on Accounting and Health Policy and Planning. Bruce Gurd was awarded Life Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management for a distinguished contribution including as past- President. He also won the 2015 ANZAM  Research Supervision Excellence Award for thoughtfully and carefully supervising 15 PhD candidates to completion; as well as leading PhD workshops around Australia and New Zealand.

In a time of significant change in Chinese hospitals, understanding the change recipient’s responses is critical. A model of their responses to change was constructed from previous models and compared with a case study of dramatic change in a Chinese hospital. A new model is produced which may be generalizable to other Chinese hospitals.
