Brenda Cowan
Brenda is a Fulbright scholar and recipient of the 2017 Faculty Excellence Award, who served as Chairperson for nine years. Brenda holds a MS.ed from Bank Street College of Education, a BFA from the School of Visual Arts, and teaches exhibition concept design, research and evaluation, audience and object studies, and thesis. Her research, Psychotherapeutic Object Dynamics, engaged museums in Bosnia, England, British Columbia, Sweden, and New York.

Biography
Brenda is an associate professor in the graduate Exhibition & Experience Design department at the Fashion Institute of Technology, a college of the State University of New York. She is a Fulbright scholar, recipient of the FIT 2017 Faculty Excellence Award, served as the department’s Chairperson for over nine years, and teaches exhibition concept design and narrative, research and evaluation, audience and object studies, and thesis research. Brenda co-founded Exhibit A Design Group, Inc. where she developed permanent and traveling exhibitions, educational products and master plans for cultural institutions, historic sites, the National Park Service, and children's museums.Education

Brenda's original research, Psychotherapeutic Object Dynamics, focuses on the relationship between objects and mental health. Her case study and applied research has engaged museum partners in Bosnia-Herzegovina, England, British Columbia, Sweden, and New York; been presented at the American Alliance of Museums and OSPI 2016; published by the National Association of Museum Exhibition, Society for Experiential Graphic Design, O Magazine and Huffington Post Science; and is the subject of the co-authored book Museums, Health and Healing.
