Areas of Research / Professional Expertise

Bill grew up in Montreal, then moved to Toronto to complete his education. After working as a wilderness course instructor in Northern Ontario, he made a career change to Royal Trust as management development consultant.  He married, and settled in Milton on the outskirts of the greater Toronto area; when his second child arrived,  he and his wife moved to Peterborough. With its ample green space, proximity to wilderness, thriving arts and cultural community, Peterborough has been a great place to raise a family. After leaving Royal Trust, he started his own business services practice -- Ascent Associates -- which focuses on leadership, team effectiveness, and the design of training and development initiatives for businesses, government and the non-profit sector. He also does career counseling and freelance writing and editing.  Since moving to Peterborough, he has instructed courses in team work and facilitation for Trent University's Continuing Education Program and communications programs for Fleming College.

Personal Interests

While he still occasionally gets out on canoe trips in Northern Ontario and Quebec, most of his time these days is consumed with political activity.  Bill was involved in a community-based legal case to prevent the closure of a very successful downtown high school.  He is also active in a coalition of activists seeking to re-route a proposed highway through Peterborough.  He has participated in municipal and federal election campaigns.  Lately Bill has become involved in community development advocacy with Axiom News, a generative journalism consultancy based in Peterborough, where he is focusing on the creation of new community media and the development of the New Economy in Peterborough.
