Prof. Khalid Saeed Khan from the University of Granada Spain, conducted a workshop at UHS Lahore during the three-day international conference on clinical trials held at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore from March 25-27th, 2022. He has lot of experience of running randomized clinical trial for nearly 25 years. The theme of his workshop was “Transparency in Clinical Trials”.

Talking to Pulse International Dr. Khalid Saeed said that Idea of this workshop was to emphasize that the trial we conduct and later publish must be well planned, the results should be trustworthy. My objective was to educate and train the participants on How to introduce integrity in the trial and how to make it transparent. It is important that Ethical approval and protocol is followed and the authentic results are published. Policy makers, clinicians or patients should have confidence that result of the trial are not manipulated.

Continuing Prof. Khalid Saeed said that I got opportunity to work with Prof. Javed Akram and his team in PROTECT trial which was a fascinating experience. He commended their foresight and said, they knew what difficulties they will face in the days to come and had thus prepared plan for it. The trial has been completed and its protocol is under publication which will be followed by its results. It was extremely impressive because in this multicenter study at least ten to eleven center across and outside Lahore were involved. To motivate over five hundred people to take part in short period with regulatory and ethical approval demonstrate that we have the capacity to undertake important studies when we have a challenge.

Prof. Khalid Saeed further stated that I have working experience with ICCBS in Karachi. They have long history and are very active. It is heartening to see the quality of work which is being done here. We are at a stage in Pakistan where we are the sixth biggest country in the World. Now a days even small or medium size countries regardless of their development status, don’t have sufficient patients to complete a study in reasonable period of time within the country and that’s why multi country studies are becoming common. In Pakistan we are lucky if we want to do a multicenter trial we have sufficient number of patients within one country. We should use this opportunity and exploit it and the knowledge we get will benefit not only Pakistan but globally. Results of Clinical trials conducted for Corona Virus Vaccines in Pakistan and other countries are being used all over the World and getting benefit of it. To conduct a clinical trial is a noble cause because it will not only benefit its researchers and institutions but it will be beneficial for patients all over the Word, he added.

Professor Khalid Khan shares useful tips on how to get research paper published

By: Khalid Khan
Subjects: Biomedical Science, Healthcare, Life Science, Medicine, Statistics

Many assume the process of getting research published to revolve around identifying a certain clinical issue, gathering relevant data and then compiling it to send it off to the publisher. The reality is far from it though as the submission of the paper is the secondary task of getting research published. The primary task of getting research published is to create a research article abiding by all the rules and regulations to avoid first-hand rejection from the editors themselves. Professor Dr. Khalid Khan has over 25 years of experience as Chief Editor, along with providing assistance to health researchers with the right tools and tips to create structured manuscripts that editors love to publish. During one of his webinars, Dr. Khalid Khan addresses healthcare staff and enlightens them with the necessary information to compile a research manuscript.

The first thing that the editors focus on when they receive a research paper are title page, the abstract and the introduction. The paper could very well be stopped here from being peer reviewed if problems arise at this step. Getting the title right is important to intrigue the reader and make them read more. The title should not include question marks or abbreviations so as to not sway the actual meaning and research contained in the article. Dr Khalid Khan further elaborates on the importance of getting the graphs and tables of the research manuscript correct as those prove the validity of the collected research data.
