Akinori Morimoto
He is a professor in city and transportation planning at Waseda University, Japan. He is also a vice president of the City Planning Institute of Japan and managing director at The Japan Research Center for Transport Policy. His academic field is related to the strategies to integrate the land use and transportation toward the sustainable city. He has supervised many projects in national and local government in Japan, and has been invited as a keynote speaker at several international conferences.
Biography
Akinori Morimoto is a professor in city and transportation planning at department of civil and environment engineering at Waseda University since 2014. After graduating from graduate school of Waseda University in 1989, he worked as a research associate for Waseda and Utsunomiya University, as a visiting scholar for MIT and most recently as an associate professor and professor at Utsunomiya University until 2014.He has served as a vice president of the City Planning Institute of Japan, managing director in The Japan Research Center for Transport Policy.

His academic field is related with the strategies to integrate the transport and land use toward the sustainable city. Creating a new transportation system will increase the attractiveness of the land and encourage the construction of new urban facilities. In Utsunomiya, as the chair of the committee for a long time, he contributed to the realization of the introduction of Japan's first all-new LRT line. In recent years, he has served as a chairperson for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in a study group on urban planning for an automated driving society. In this regard, he has worked to link research and practice, advising on national institutional planning and supervising many local urban planning and transportation planning projects.
