Christopher J. Mocella received his bachelor's of science degree in chemistry from Washington College in Chestertown, MD in 2001, having studied as a research associate under Dr. John Conkling. Chris continued to work with Dr. Conkling at his Summer Pyrotechnics Seminar series and assisted with the second edition of the Chemistry of Pyrotechnics text, and became the primary author for the third edition.

Conkling/Mocella Book Release and Induction Ceremony

On Thursday, April 11, 2019, following induction into the Washington College (Gamma Eta) Chapter of the Gamma Sigma Epsilon National Honor Society in Chemistry, Dr. John Conkling ’65, WC adjunct chemistry professor and author of the seminal “Chemistry of Pyrotechnics” text, introduced co-author Chris Mocella ’01 for his treatise “The Chemistry and the Poetry of Fireworks” in the Litrenta Lecture Hall, Toll Science Center. This served as the “book release” event for the 3rd edition of the Chemistry of Pyrotechnics by Conkling and Mocella, CRC Press/Taylor&Francis Group.
