Stephanie Burridge (PhD) writes about dance and education in the Asia Pacific region. She is the Co-chair of the World Dance Alliance Asia Pacific Research and Documentation network. She was Artistic Director of Canberra Dance Theatre (1978-2001) and is Series Editor for Routledge Celebrating Dance in Asia and the Pacific.

Biography

Stephanie Burridge is the Co-chair of the World Dance Alliance Asia Pacific Research and Documentation network. She trained at the Laban Center (UK), holds a BA in Anthropology/Arts History and a Ph.D. in Contemporary Dance from London Contemporary Dance School in association with the University of Kent (UK). As Artistic Director of Canberra Dance Theatre (1978-2001) she commissioned Australia’s leading choreographers, composers, visual artists and performers – she was awarded the first Choreographic Fellowship at the Australian Choreographic Centre, an ACT Lifetime Achievement award and received Australia Council funding for choreographic projects over several years. Tasmanian born, she lives in Singapore where she lectures at LASALLE College of the Arts and Singapore Management University, has been a research consultant at the National Institute of Education, is the author and editor of numerous publications on dance and education including Shifting Sands: Dance in Asia and the Pacific (2006). Stephanie has written reviews and articles on dance, the performing and visual arts for the Straits Times, Business Times, Ballet Tanz (Germany), Ballet Dance UK, Realtime and Dance Australia (Australia) amongst others.

She is the Series Editor for Routledge Celebrating Dance in Asia and the Pacific and to date, books on Cambodia, India, Malaysia, Australia, Taiwan and the South Pacific have been published and Singapore in press (release July 2014). Routledge, Dance Education around the World:  Perspectives on Dance, Young People and Change (Editors:  Charlotte Svendler Nielsen and Stephanie Burridge, Foreword: Ken Robinson) supported by the World Dance Alliance and Dance and the Child International will be launched in July 2015. Stephanie is also a mentor for professional projects, judge at local dance competitions and festivals, and sits of several dance panels for the National Arts Council, Singapore.

Dr Burridge is a mentor, writer and critic and her choreographic and research projects have been supported by, amongst others, the Australia Council, National Arts Council (Singapore) and the Singapore International Foundation.
