Biography

Dr Arthur Lyons was educated at Hawarden Grammar School in Flintshire, where as Head Boy he gained a State Scholarship and an Open Exhibition to Trinity Hall, Cambridge to study Natural Sciences. Following a year at ICI Fibres at Pontypool, he undertook a Masters Degree at Warwick University followed by a PhD and post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Leicester. He commenced his teaching career in the School of Architecture and Surveying  at Thames Polytechnic, followed by the Leicester School of Architecture - De Montfort University where he studied for a Post-graduate Diploma in Architectural Building Conservation. He was awarded a Principal Lectureship and subsequently appointed as Teacher Fellow and Head of Quality in the Faculty of Art & Design. HIs teaching encompassed computer-aided design and construction materials. In 1993, Arthur Lyons was honoured with life membership of the Leicestershire & Rutland Society of Architects for services to architects and architecture and is currently the only holder of this prestigious award. He trained as a QAA Institutional Auditor for universities and collaborative provision, and was elected Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2007. Arthur Lyons now author books on construction materials and architecture. He is married with two daughters living in Perth, Australia and London respectively. He has three grandchildren.

Personal Interests

    My main interests are travel, technical authoring, architecture, conservation, gardening and local community activities including the village Parish Council.
    I designed my own barn conversion and extension and have been involved in various landscape and construction projects.
