My teaching and writing careers have evolved together, each complementing the other. The work I do is based on nearly forty years’ experience in education. My work with children aims to motivate while developing practical skills in literacy, thinking and emotional resourcefulness. The CPD I offer gives staff a raft of practical strategies and techniques grounded in learning theory.

Biography

I began writing for pleasure when I was twelve. I taught secondary English for twenty years. My first book, published in 1985, was a Fantasy novel for pre-teen readers. Further early published work consists of fantasy and SF for teenagers. I have since diversified into adult and teen horror, teen romance, mainstream fiction for pre-teens, fiction and non-fiction for younger readers, educational nonfiction, and poetry for all ages. To date I have published seventy-five titles and numerous short stories and poems.

I became a fulltime freelance writer and education consultant in 1994. Over the years I have visited hundreds of schools to do storytelling sessions, run creative writing and thinking workshops, give talks about writing and run INSET courses on thinking skills, creativity, writing and emotional resourcefulness.
