Alex Quigley Books

Alex Quigley's books provide teachers across the curriculum with practical solutions and classroom activities for teaching vocabulary, reading and writing. They also provide school leaders with evidence-based approaches to literacy that can be applied across a school or a group of schools.

Closing the Gap series

Alex spent well over a decade working hard to make a difference in his classroom. Too often, he lacked confidence and skill in supporting struggling students - especially those pupils who didn't read or write successfully. As a result, he began reading and writing about teaching, learning and literacy. Eventually, he began to author books for busy teachers, with an increasing specialism in literacy.

In his bestselling 'Closing the Gap' series he attempts to make literacy actionable in every classroom across all school phases. Academic vocabulary, reading and writing, are the gateway to the school curriculum and simply vital for success. Each book attempts to collate research evidence in a readable style, whilst offering lots of practical ideas for the classroom.

Closing the Writing Gap is the latest book in the series and focuses on giving every teacher the knowledge and skill to teach the critical writing process with confidence.

It trains teachers to be an expert in how pupils learn to write, from the big picture of planning, editing and revising your writing, to the vital importance of grammar and spelling with accuracy.
