About the Editors

Dr Yasser Mahmoudi received his B.S. degree from Shiraz University and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Tarbiat Modares University. He was a postdoctoral researcher at Delft University of Technology and the University of Cambridge. He is now a Lecturer of Mechanical Engineering at Queens University Belfast and a Fellow of Higher Education Academy. He is an Associate Editor of Special Topics & Reviews in Porous Media- An International Journal, and was awarded the "Outstanding Reviewer" recognition by "International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer", ‘International Journal of Thermal Sciences’ and ‘Applied Thermal Engineering’. Yasser has published over 35 high quality journal papers and over 40 peer-reviewed conference papers with Google h-index of 17 and i10-index of 23. He has been a principal investigator or co-investigator for a number of research programmes, funded by Research Councils and industry. His research areas of interests are flow in porous media, convection heat transfer, thermal energy storage and renewable energy.

Professor Kamel Hooman is the Director of the Renewable Energy Conversion Centre of Excellence with over $2m average annual budget working closely with the industry in the field of energy. Author of over 150 archival journal articles, 3 book chapters, and over 50 conference papers, he has given numerous national and international invited lectures, keynote addresses, and presentations. He has been awarded fellowships from Emerald, Australian Research Council, National Science Foundation China, Australian Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences with visiting professor/researcher positions at University of Padova, Krakow Institute of Technology, Ecole Centrale Paris, University of Malaya, Karlsuhe Institute of Technology and Shandong University. He is the associate editor of the Heat Transfer Engineering, Journal of Porous Media and Special Topics and Reviews in Porous Media—an international journal—and serves on the editorial advisory board of the International Journal of Exergy, Energies and Thermal Science and Engineering Progress. He has been the Organizer and Chair of the International Conference on Cooling Tower and Heat Exchanger sponsored by IAHR. He has supervised eleven doctoral and masters students, and has directed over ten post docs. He has an h-index of 30. He has carried out various sponsored research projects through companies, governmental funding agencies, and national labs. He has also consulted for various companies and governments; Australia and Overseas.

Professor Kambiz Vafai received his B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota (with the highest honors), Minneapolis, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. He is the Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at University of California, Riverside (UCR), where he started as the presidential chair in the department of Mechanical Engineering. Author of over 350 archival journal articles, book chapters, books (Ed.), and symposium volumes (Ed.), he has given numerous national and international invited lectures, keynote addresses, and presentations. He is a Fellow of American Association for Advancement of Science, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, World Innovation Foundation, and an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Porous Media and Special Topics and Reviews in Porous Media—an international journal, and an Editor for the International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, and serves on the editorial advisory board of International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, Numerical Heat Transfer, International Journal of Numerical Methods for Heat and Fluid Flow, International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, and Experimental Heat Transfer. He is the editor of the all three editions of the Handbook of Porous Media, which became best sellers. Kambiz has been the Director/Chair of the First to Sixth International Conferences on Porous Media, all sponsored by ECI and NSF. He has supervised 65 doctoral and masters students, and has directed over 66 post docs and visiting scholars. He has worked on a multitude of fundamental research investigations, a number of which have addressed some highly pertinent concepts presented for the first time. He is among the very few engineering scientists who have been within the prestigious ISI highly cited category with over 13,600 ISI citations covering a wide spectrum of disciplines and journals and an ISI h-index of 56 and over 25,870 Google Scholar Citations and a Google h-index of 74 and i10-index of 263. He has carried out various sponsored research projects through companies, governmental funding agencies, and national labs. He has also consulted for various companies and national labs, and has been granted thirteen U.S. patents. He was the recipient of the ASME Classic Paper Award in 1999 and has received the 2006 ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award, which are amongst the most selective awards in the field of heat transfer. He was given the International Society of Porous Media (InterPore) Highest Award in 2011 and he was also the recipient of the 75th Anniversary Medal of ASME Heat Transfer Division.
