Biography
Sophie Juliane Veigl is a senior lecturer in philosophy of science and technology at the department of Philosophy, University of Vienna. She works at the intersection of philosophy of science, feminist philosophy, and epistemology. She is the co-editor of Methods in Philosophy of Science – A user’s guide.
“This book offers a compelling challenge to abstract theorizing by grounding epistemology in real knowledge practices and power relations. Drawing on qualitative interviews about testosterone use across medical practitioners, users, and sports contexts, it highlights the messy realities of knowledge practices and develops an agent-based account of epistemic systems that attends to the power dynamics within knowledge production. It also combines insights from feminist epistemology and the sociology of scientific knowledge to provide fresh insights into the epistemology of disagreement and expertise. Researchers across disciplines will find it an invaluable resource for understanding and critiquing contemporary forms of knowledge production.”
Robin McKenna, University of Liverpool, UK
