“This book provides a well-structured, easily accessible roadmap to writing success. Its engaging format and wide range of text types will provide students with the opportunity of ‘seeing grammar and writing concepts in action.’ The engaging characters used, such as Grammar Gorilla and the Reading Spider provide an excellent visual scaffold to help students develop their knowledge and application of these essential skills.
Its effective use of model texts (including annotated examples) to link reading, talking speaking, and building knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and text features will provide an excellent support for students as they develop their writing capability. Its coverage is comprehensive, including planning sheets, success criteria, and opportunities for self-assessment and target setting forms, as well display posters outlining the ‘recipe for success,’ and will prove to be an invaluable resource for teachers and parents.”
Alison Wilcox, author of Descriptosaurus.“This new textbook offers a supportive approach to developing English skills for both pupils transitioning to secondary school and those who need extra guidance when reaching the secondary phase. It combines the fundamentals of reading, writing, and grammar with an imaginative selection of texts for young minds, from vivid fantasy pieces and lively travel blogs to timeless works of classic fiction. The characters, mnemonics and quizzes keep young readers engaged while widening their literary horizons. The comprehension and grammar exercises are both challenging and accessible, encouraging pupils to think critically while strengthening their technical accuracy. It is not only an excellent preparation tool for independent school entrance exams, but also an enjoyable resource that will inspire a lasting love of the English language and help any learner.”
