    Biography

Stephen Pickering is Course Leader for Primary and Outdoor Education and Senior Lecturer in Education at the University of Worcester, UK

"More and more, teachers are using outside space as an essential part of their teaching - you only have to look at the proliferation of canopies around schools to see the evidence. This can only be a good thing, but whatever space schools have, it is essential to make the best possible use of it - and that's where this book comes in. Informed by current research and practical experience, the book investigates innovative approaches to working creatively with children beyond the classroom. It covers far more than just within the confines of the school though; it looks at local environments, streets and buildings, fieldwork, rivers, forest and beach schools, PE outdoors and learning through adventure, so it is really wide-ranging. There are copious photos throughout to inspire teachers plus activity boxes which are full of well-explained ideas to extend learning. An excellent book to ensure the wider environment is used and a great way to stimulate discussion among teachers."
