Biography
Anssi Roiha is an experienced educator who has gained insights into several educational contexts. He has worked as a teacher and student support specialist at an International Baccalaureate school in the Netherlands and as a special education teacher in Finland. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master’s of Education degree and is specialised in foreign language pedagogy, differentiation and intercultural education. Currently he works as a lecturer in foreign language pedagogy at the university of Turku in Finland where he conducts research and trains pre-service teachers.
Eryn Wiseman is an experienced teacher and education consultant who has worked in international schools in various roles to support teachers and administrators with the development of ethos, approach and execution of inquiry and concept-based teaching and learning. Drawing on over 20 years of teaching experience, she is well placed to facilitate the development of those new to the profession as well as those who have been teaching for a little longer.
It is very rare to find an educational text that leads the reader from principles into practice. Teaching and Learning in International Schools does exactly that, and in a style that brings you along on a journey rather than intimidating with jargon and theory. Each chapter contains relevant and rich content that takes us through a wide range of ideas around teaching practice, pedagogy and teacher skill development….The 'teacher voice' is strong and brings the theory into real-life, makes it more authentic and gives confidence to the reader that we can do it too!.....This is a text that is much needed in national and international education.
Malcolm NicolsonDirector Erimus Education, and International EducatorThis book is a welcome contribution to the resources available not only to those who wish to pursue a career in International Education but to any beginning teacher or those simply wanting to refresh their thinking about how to apply contemporary practices to the classroom...I am sure there will be much in this collection that will resonate with International Educators. The thoughtful questions posed throughout the text have the potential to guide some important conversations and prompt positive, professional growth.
